So, for the first time in I-don’t-know-how-many years, I find myself inside the cold walls of Citadel. Told myself I wouldn’t come back here, but the circumstances with Renna seemed to be calling me out of ‘hiding’ in Allsten. I still don’t know if I can really do anything, but luckily I was able to talk Gunnar, Elly, and Tyro into coming along. I usually work alone, but I don’t think I could really get to the heart of this issue alone.
Anyway, it seems all Vaynor is in chaos these days. And I don’t mean just the chaos of war—sadly to say, I think I’m getting used to that. Renna’s death has agitated the faithful, and the loss of that stupid spear has everyone else in a hoot. Its extremely frustrating; everyone gets upset and crazy when they lose something, even when it wasn’t really theirs to begin with. Am I the only one who tried to actually get something back before it was taken? Even playing hero in Allsten was at least trying to right a wrong. But as I said before, I guess that isn’t enough anymore.
Renna’s death—no, her disappearance—has me confused. I mean, Elly and Tyro had the genius idea to talk to the animals on the scene, and they all didn’t seem scared or surprised at all. From what I could gather from Commander Stire and the others I talked to in Citadel, the blast of fire seemed to have come from within. Maybe it was underneath… I remember Elly saying something about magic like that being Infernal in nature, but I have no idea what that means.
The soldiers from Renna’s detachment have all taken oaths and covered their faces in ash. Don’t remember where I heard it, but someone called them the ‘cult of Renna.’ I think I agree on that name. These folks seemed almost possessed in their fervor to reclaim the body, and I can’t say I’m comfortably having so many of them traveling with us. Ha, I think I may almost prefer Gunnar’s new friends to the tiny Army that Stire is bringing along. I mean, I know their help will be appreciated—especially in this desolate wasteland—but I can’t help but feel unnerved when surrounded by them.
We’ll just have to see how things turn up. I have a feeling we’ll find more answers in the nearby Orcish encampment, and I’m sure that Gunnar and Tyro will help me ‘interrogate’ them.
